Hello and Welcome! Thanks for visiting my blog. My name is Sade (pronounced Sha-day or sh AA – d ai) yes, like the singer. My Dad named me after the beautiful songstress who first emerged in the 80’s (which I think is pretty cool by the way). People never seem to understand how “Sade” is supposed to sound like “Shaday” and I usually have to explain that it’s of Nigerian origin, but that explanation has yet to remedy or prevent the butchering of my name throughout my entire life! [INSERT FRUSTRATED FACE].
I reside in the suburbs of Chicago where I’ve created a home with my Husband, Buck, of seven years and our two year old son David. Buck and I were high school sweethearts and have been together for over fifteen years! We survived about five years in a distant relationship spanning between two state schools, one located in Western Illinois and the other in Southern Illinois. I’m currently a stay at home mom which happened by accident. Well, not by total accident. I’ve kind of created this here situation in two ways or another. You could say I spoke my present reality into existence. After working several years in a demanding position in Advertising Sales, feeling like everyone’s “beck and call girl” and like my life was not my own, I realized that I didn’t want to be under that kind of pressure while raising my first child. I also awed at the fact two of my sorority sisters were late twenty something stay at home moms with their first children and proclaimed that too was my destiny! At the time I was nowhere near ready to be a mom so in the meantime I continued to work really really hard to advance in my career, but to no avail. None of the extra projects I picked up, additional teams I added to my plate or process improvements I created garnered me the promotion that I undoubtedly deserved. So in June of 2015 I put in my two week notice but only after much disappointment and knocking on numerous doors that just would not open.
The events that transpire from there are perfectly crafted by God, some good and some bad, but all necessary to help pull my gift of writing deep from within. My hopes are that you’ll continue on this blogging journey with me as I share my struggle to birth my gift of writing, my obedience to God to leave my corporate job without having another one, and my experience becoming a motherless first time mom.
